Langton Adventure Centre was founded in 1970 as a charitable trust by Canon John Thursfield and Thomas Edwin Langton "to be used as and for an adventure centre for character training to help boys, girls and young people through their leisure time activities so to develop their physical, mental and spiritual capacities that they may grow to full maturity as individuals and members of society”.

Established through donation and fundraising, the Centre was originally used for 'outward bound' type courses to enable young people to visit the Lake District and enjoy walking, climbing, canoeing and sailing on the surrounding lakes and fells. We continue to operate as a charity today, run by its trustees and volunteers in accordance with the objectives laid down by the Charity Commissioners. Although we no longer provide activity equipment our location offers a multitude of local expertise for a wide range of activities, ideal for holidays, field, adventure courses and study weeks.

Costs remain as low as possible to enable youth groups to make use of the Centre, with all fees and donations used to develop the accommodation. Past visitors include the Scouts , Prince's Trust , SkillForce and Uthink .
