Langton
Adventure Centre was established as a charitable
trust in 1970 by Canon John Thursfield and Thomas
Edwin Langton. We are situated in the heart
of the Lake District in the small hamlet of
Hartsop, Cumbria, near the bottom of Kirkstone
pass and close to Brotherswater. The purpose
of the trust at the time and still today is
for the centre:
" to be used as and for an adventure
centre for character training to help boys,
girls and young people through their leisure
time activities so to develop their physical,
mental and spiritual capacities that they may
grow to full maturity as individuals and members
of society..."

The centre was originally
used for 'outward bound' type courses to enable
young people to visit the lake district and
enjoy walking, climbing, canoeing, sailing on
the surrounding lakes and fells. The centre
was established by charitable donation and fundraising
and is run by the trustees and volunteers who
have, over the years improved the accommodation
and continue to do so. The centre no longer
offers outdoor equipment and canoes, but provides
an ideal location for groups to enjoy all the
activities the lakes has to offer. The High
Street range is within sight of the centre with
Ullswater and Helvelyn close by. The area offers
a multitude of local expertise in the whole
range of outdoor activities.
The centre can be
hired by groups of all ages to enjoy the lakes
and develop a sense of community. |
